Glaray, officially known as the Republic of Glaray (Standard Glaraian: Republica de Glaray, Viera Glaraian: Repubblica di Glaray, Vallese & Imeri Glaraian: Republika e Glaray) is a country located in north-eastern Westmont . It is bordered by Onduria to the north-east, Atlandia to the north-west, Deep Valley to the south-east and Delinia to the south.
The territory that encompasses modern day Glaray has been throughout history parts of the Flakurian Empire, Imeria and Qafoku. The country came into existence in the late 1700's after the Flakurian Genocide brought stability and peace to Glaraian territories, which led to its subsequent independence. Today the country is inhabited mostly by ethnic Glaraians, however Glaraians class themselves further into three groups based on their cultural identity and their places throughout Glaraian history: Viera Glaraians, Imeri Glaraians and Vallese Glaraians - these three cultural groups give the country's three regions. There are two substantial minorities in the country; Atlandians and Ondurians (both countries neighbouring Glaray). Other ethnic groups comprise 2% of the country's population.
The country experienced substantial economic growth in the 1970's after opening its borders to the rest of Fantasia, enabling trade with more prominent and powerful nations, as well as economic powerhouses. This economic growth proved to be too much for the nation, as it found itself in a rapid transition of change which its people could not keep up with - this caused the Glaraian Partition in 1980, the transformation of the Vallese State of Glaray into a communist state in 1981 and the Glaraian War in 1984. After Vallese broke free of communism after the assassination of leader Louie Falliu by the Vieran government in late 1984, this acted as the catalyst for the country to reunify as one state and this was done so successfully, with the Reunification of Glaray occurring on February 7, 1985. Since then, there has continued to be mild tensions between cultural groups, but this has not hindered the prosperity of the nation.
The capital city, Tusaun, is the most populous city of the country and serves as the nation's financial, educational and cultural hub. With a population of 1,373,417, it is home to 12.38% of the country's population of 11,090,058 (est 2014).
